Welcome from the President.Welcome to the website of the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI). PSI is the professional body for psychology in Ireland. As such, it seeks to promote the science and profession of psychology in Ireland and beyond. Most importantly of
all, it is a professional collective, the national organisation
that represents bona fide psychologists in Ireland. In pursuing its
aims, PSI liaises with all third level institutions offering psychological
training
in Ireland, sets and develops criteria against which the professional
acceptability of training can be evaluated, and operates standardised
systems of professional accreditation (for training programmes)
and professional registration (for practitioners). In order that such
systems are recognised internationally as embodying best practice
standards,
PSI operates in consultation with its European and global umbrella
organisations, EFPA (the European Federation of Psychologist Associations)
and IUPsyS (the International Union of Psychological Science). PSI membership has grown to just over 2000. This is due to the commitment of Irish psychologists over the last 36 years. It also reflects the common beliefs of a diversity of specialists in psychology who continue to work cohesively for the good of the profession and the public benefit. Throughout this site you will find the distinctiveness of counselling, clinical, health, educational and work psychology alongside the pervasiveness of the psychological approach to understanding our world. I hope you find this website stimulates your exploration of psychology and of the Psychological Society of Ireland. Whether you are a member, thinking of becoming a member, a student or an interested member of the public, have a look at the breadth and depth of psychology in Ireland and enjoy your visit.
